Mission:

Medicine is both an art and a science. The contribution of the Medical Laboratory to the rapid diagnosis, effective monitoring and accurate prognosis of disease is increasingly essential. Patients and their physicians increasingly recognise the need to trust the Laboratory and the Clinical Pathologist they choose as a consultant.
The Laboratory has an increasing duty and responsibility to provide those who trust it with knowledge and a response of quality and added professional value, from a medical, technical, scientific and human point of view.
We fully assume this responsibility and make it our mission, putting ourselves at the service of patients and colleagues who require our services, 24 hours a day.

Values:

Quality and rigour
Innovation, quality and rigour have always been our motto. Keeping a close eye on the evolution and challenges of medicine in our field of specialisation and making this knowledge available to colleagues and patients is our strictest obligation and an inalienable ethical duty.

Modernity and Innovation
We have recently moved our laboratory to new, spacious and modern facilities, which are, on the one hand, a response to the trust that colleagues and patients have always placed in the quality of our laboratory and diagnostic tests, and on the other hand, signify, through the diversity and modernity of the techniques and technologies developed, that we are keeping up with the latest demands of medicine, thus preparing ourselves for the future now.

The Germano de Sousa Group is today much more than a vast network of Clinical Pathology Laboratories. Research and development is a priority that has allowed us to keep up with advances and challenges, making all this knowledge available to our medical colleagues and patients.
In addition to the Clinical Pathology Laboratory, an area of excellence of the Germano de Sousa Group, two other laboratories reinforce the leading position of the Portuguese laboratory in the market: the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory and the Genetics Laboratory.

With more than 45 years of clinical laboratory activity firmly established in Portugal, the Germano de Sousa Group has developed by combining high scientific and medical knowledge with a capacity for clinical governance and innovation that has allowed it to always be ahead of its time, looking to the future with confidence, serving patients and physicians in the complexities of clinical and laboratory diagnostics.

Established in R. Dr. Antonio Bernardino de Almeida, 4200 – 162 Porto. Portugal

IPO Porto is a public reference centre in oncology, operated by the Portuguese National Health Service. It treats approximately 10,000 new patients a year, and follows up more than 45,000 people diagnosed with cancer, accounting for about half of the cancer treatments in the northern region of the country. Since 2011 it has been recognised by the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) as the only Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Portugal, standing out for integrating advanced clinical care, teaching and high-level research in oncology.

In the research area, the Research Centre (CI-IPOP) coordinates translational studies and clinical trials, with an early clinical trials unit (UEFP) from 2019, focused on precision medicine and molecular biomarkers. In addition, IPO Porto is leading the development of the Porto Comprehensive Cancer Centre (Porto.CCC), a partnership with the i3S Research Institute, whose “Bedside to Bench and Back” model seeks to translate clinical needs into applied research, including proton therapy projects, digital palliative care and innovative funding based on clinical outcomes.
