The National Cancer Institute (INCA) of Uruguay, which belongs to the State Health Services Administration (ASSE), is the public centre of reference in oncology. Founded as the Institute of Radiology in 1913 and transformed into INCA in 2009, today it offers comprehensive care encompassing medical oncology, oncological surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, pathological anatomy and palliative care, operating with multidisciplinary units and advanced healthcare infrastructures.

It provides approximately 40% of the country’s cancer treatments, distributing around 3 million dollars worth of drugs per year and carrying out around 2,000 cancer treatments per month and 300 radiotherapy sessions.

INCA also plays an important role in national and international research and collaboration. It actively participates in multicentre studies, has a bioethics committee and collaborates with entities such as the University of the Republic, the Peluffo Giguens Foundation and the Honorary Commission for the Fight against Cancer. It is also developing the first National Tumour Biobank and has implemented telemedicine services to facilitate remote medical care and training.
